Somerset Career & Technical Center (SCTC) is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Cosmetology Instructor.  This position provides students with rigorous, hands-on instruction aligned with Maine DOE CTE standards and prepares students for careers in the cosmetology and personal care industry.

The ideal candidate brings strong industry experience, a commitment to high-quality instruction, and a passion for working with adolescents in a career-focused learning environment.

This is a full-time position for the 2026-2027 school year. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards-based instruction in cosmetology theory and hands-on skills aligned with industry standards

  • Maintain a professional, safe, and sanitary instructional salon/lab in compliance with state safety and sanitation regulations

  • Integrate employability skills, professionalism, customer service, and workplace safety into daily instruction

  • Develop lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with SCTC program expectations

  • Assess and document student competencies, required hours, and progress toward licensure

  • Collaborate with academic teachers, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support student achievement

  • Supervise students during salon/clinic operations, work-based learning experiences, and community-based activities

  • Maintain accurate records and comply with all SCTC, district, and Maine DOE policies and procedures


Qualifications

  • Valid Maine Cosmetology Instructor License

  • Ability to obtain Maine DOE CTE Teacher Authorization – Certification Code 911 (Cosmetology)

  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Commitment to supporting diverse learners in a secondary CTE setting
